Let’s Clone Cliff

Summer Holiday meets Wizard of Oz meets As Good as it Gets

August 2011: Having watched the ‘yoof’ of today rioting on TV, a group of grumpy, self-righteous pensioners at an old people’s home conclude that society has gone to the dogs and that the only thing that can save the nation from terminal decline, is a return to our Christian heritage. Problem is: Anglicanism is no longer taught in school and going to Church on a Sunday is decidedly uncool. So, the pensioners decide to find a new role model.

Having concluded that the best person for the job is our very own Sir Cliff Richard, they pool their pensions, buy a Double Decker bus (with built-in cassette player) and set out on a road trip (OK pilgrimage) to Cliff’s vineyard in Portugal, with a view to taking a sample of his DNA and cloning him, for the future benefit of all mankind. I mean, what could possibly go wrong?

The film is actually an allegory of faith and unconditional love, as the pensioners find themselves on a journey of self-discovery, which is revealed to them via the ‘yoof’, (the very people they wanted to eradicate) who they meet on the way.

Let’s Clone Cliff is a jukebox musical and road trip movie, featuring the best of Cliff’s back catalogue. For the record, Cliff has sold over 21.5 million singles in the UK. Making him the third top-selling artist, after the Beatles and Elvis Presley.
